This session’s intent is to demonstrate how to implement biophilic design principles and educate attendees on the importance of incorporating nature into their facilities. Public safety professionals are at high risk of stress-related illnesses. The reintroduction of nature into the daily activities of first responders through biophilic station design can mitigate post-trauma symptoms and serve as therapy. We will discuss common stress-related issues plaguing the department and how biophilic station design can mitigate their effects. Practical evidence and examples of biophilic station design will be explored in existing stations, as well as concepts for new facilities.
