Description

This session challenges the traditional view of fire station design and introduces next-generation strategies that transform stations into facilities that foster long-term well-being. From spaces that promote decompression and solitude to environments that integrate nature, connection and mental health support, these approaches reimagine the station not just as a workplace, but as a setting that actively contributes to recovery, retention and personal resilience. Building upon RRM Design Group’s Design4Life philosophy—traditionally focused on hot zones and contamination control, we’ll explore how this mindset is expanding to encompass the whole firefighter experience. Architectural design decisions can reduce exposure to harmful contaminants and carcinogens while also shaping spaces that safeguard health and foster wellness. Attendees will gain practical insights into how thoughtful layouts and workflows can both protect long-term wellbeing and enhance day-to-day life at the station, whether in a new-build project or a renovation.
