FIRE TOURS:

Avondale Fire and Medical - Station No. 175

Avondale, Arizona

SOLD OUT! WAIT LIST WILL BE AVAILABLE ONSITE AT REGISTRATION

The Avondale Fire and Medical Station No. 175, completed on May 1, 2022, is centrally located in the city of Avondale. Designed by Perlman Architects, the project sits on 2.98 acres and was built during the COVID pandemic in less than a year.

The 17,000 SF single-story station consists of three bays and includes ten gender-neutral dormitories, BC and BSO quarters, firefighters and captains’ offices, a training/community room, and decontamination showers. This station is connected to the City of Phoenix Dispatch Network, requiring the Willmeng Construction team to coordinate closely with the dispatch network, the City of Avondale, U.S. Dispatch Corp., and the electrical contractor.

On-site improvements included an above-ground generator, a public art area, a secure patio, a fitness patio with a synthetic lawn, and secure parking. The site was selected because the city owns the parcel, and an existing traffic signal could be converted to provide a safe emergency response. It was also a prime site due to the call volume in the growing area. The site was conveniently large enough to provide a temporary fire station and housing while the new station was constructed.

Phoenix Fire Station -
Station No. 62

Phoenix, Arizona

SOLD OUT! WAIT LIST WILL BE AVAILABLE ONSITE AT REGISTRATION

Phoenix Fire Station 62 is a neighborhood fire station designed to exceed current industry standards and best practices in terms of code compliance, efficiency, safety, cleanliness, and disease prevention. As Phoenix's growing area expands, this facility will serve the community for the next 100 years.

The fire station is 20,816 square feet and includes four apparatus bays, fourteen dorms, four captain’s dorms, a community room, a fitness room, work/living space, and support spaces. Unique to this project is a crisis response wing and an exterior patio with synthetic turf for outdoor training. The 6.43-acre site is large enough to accommodate a variety of amenities, including public parking, staff parking, a fuel dispensing station, a generator, water retention, covered patios, and landscaping.

Several active and passive concepts intended to promote occupant well-being were incorporated, including large windows to promote natural light, localized fresh air, and adequate ventilation. Decontamination showers are placed in transition corridors between apparatus bays and living areas to help crew members remove contaminants from their skin and clothing.

LAW ENFORCEMENT TOURS:

Public Safety Evidence and Readiness Center

Surprise, Arizona

LIMITED SPOTS REMAINING

The Surprise Police Department’s new joint Public Safety Evidence and Readiness Center includes space for police evidence and property storage and accommodates overall public safety tactical storage in one logistics center.

The overall facility is 29,000 square feet and is designed to accommodate 30 years of growth. Cost efficiencies are gained through the consolidation of two functions within one building, which requires the construction of one building, shared HVAC, and water and wastewater connections.

The combined Public Safety Evidence and Readiness Center will provide approximately 17,000 square feet for police indoor property and evidence storage and one acre of outdoor storage. The total approximate cost to design and build this project is $9 million.

Other features of the facility include a warehouse area for general evidence and property storage, secure drug and gun rooms, evidence drying areas, and an indoor vehicle inspection area. The fenced area will protect and preserve seized vehicles. A caged area within the covered parking area can hold up to 100 bicycles collected as found property for safekeeping.

Glendale Police Department Evidence Building

Glendale, AZ

LIMITED SPOTS REMAINING

The Glendale Police Department Evidence Building isn’t officially operational but is targeted for June 2025. Since it is not operational and secured at this time, tour attendees will have access to areas that will be restricted once it is operational. The facility is being funded by a $160 million bond approved by voters.

The new facility will allow the Glendale Police Department to consolidate property and evidence storage and meet regulations relating to law enforcement procedures. It will also improve capacity and streamline operations for the department, which wants to centralize storage to improve tracking, retention, and item reunification. The site also includes a new interim forensic lab program.
