Patrick O. Stone, R.A., LEED AP, Vice President and Public Safety Market Director at H2M architects + engineers, leads one of the industry’s most specialized teams dedicated to the planning and design of fire, EMS, police, and emergency management facilities. With more than 18 years of experience focused exclusively on public safety architecture, he is recognized nationally for his leadership, innovative facility design strategies, and strong partnership with emergency service organizations.
A 20 year veteran volunteer firefighter with service in both the Wantagh and Massapequa Fire Departments, Patrick brings authentic “boots on the ground” insight to every project. His operational knowledge, shaped by years of responding to emergencies, training alongside first responders, and understanding the physical and emotional demands of the job, directly informs the facilities he designs. This unique combination of practitioner and architect enables Patrick to advocate effectively for the needs of firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and emergency managers, ensuring that the buildings he delivers support safety, wellness, readiness, and long-term resilience.
Patrick is a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology and New York University. He is a Registered Architect, a LEED Accredited Professional, and an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). He also serves as a Subject Matter Expert with the National Fire Academy and is a board member of the Landmark Preservation Commission for the Town of Oyster Bay, where he resides.
At H2M, Patrick oversees the strategic direction of the Public Safety Market and serves as client manager for numerous fire & police departments, municipalities, and emergency service organizations. His expertise spans pre bond planning, public engagement, conceptual design, integrated technical coordination, and construction administration. He leverages advanced tools and evidence based design principles to deliver high performing, sustainable, mission critical facilities.
Whether in the firehouse, on a project site, or at a national podium, Patrick’s work is unified by one driving force: a lifelong passion for public service. His dual identity as both firefighter and architect continually fuels his mission to create safer, smarter, and more resilient facilities that support the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
